Designing a Cost Effective HPL Facade

Learning Objectives

  • What is a High Pressure Laminate in the Rainscreen/Facade world
  • Overview on Rainscreens and Benefits
  • Cost Factors for such materials
  • Strategies and Inspiration regarding HPL

HPL Siding Material and Rain Screen Siding Applications

HPL siding is a versatile exterior building material – ideal wherever durability and aesthetics are needed. High pressure laminate panels provide high UV, climate, impact, chemical, stain, and moisture resistance for commercial and residential applications.

    Learning Objectives

    • Understanding how high pressure laminate is made, and explore the properties of HPL
    • Explaining the principles of back-ventilated rainscreen siding
    • Providing an understanding of typical installations and applications
      • Accredited by AIA, Alberta Association of Architects, Ontario Association of Architects, Quebec Association of Architects, Architectural Institute of British Columbia and Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Compact Laminate for High Traffic Interior Walls; More applications than a toilet partition

Presentation will discuss various High Traffic Interior Spaces and how Compact HPL can meet the unique challenges of each space. Emphasis will be placed on durability, longevity, ease of install with design freedom at its core for the important spaces that we play, work, learn and recover in. We will discuss wall ventilation, vibration, indoor air quality, material transitions, trims & acoustics. Solutions will be outlined for high humidity areas, wayfinding and incorporating art into your spaces. Examples will be drawn from case studies of schools, healthcare, airports, parking garages, hospitality, mass transit, and retail facilities.

    Prerequisite Knowledge

Little to no knowledge on Compact HPL Panels.

    HSW Justification

The content will cover Indoor Air Quality (VOC’s), cleaning management protocols (including healthcare settings), repair and removal options with details for high humidity and high impact areas. The benefits of a clear specification and details up front to minimize change orders for an efficient and timely installation. Biophilic Design through the use of natural materials.

    Learning Objectives

    • Identify High Traffic Spaces & their unique design challenges
    • Define Compact Laminate as a material choice
    • Benefits of Compact Laminate as an Interior Wall surface & system options for attachment
    • Understand different applications and how to detail for ventilation, vibration, transitions, trims and acoustics; while focusing on ease of installation and design freedom
